I’m April! I completed my Bachelor of Behavioural Science in 2013 and have since finished my Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science, and I’m currently completing my Honours in Psychology. I have been working in the disability and children’s services sector for 9 years in leadership, behaviour therapy and as a trainer in crisis prevention. I am passionate about the importance of early intervention and trauma-informed care. I have experience implementing and training staff in using child-centred play therapy to explore children’s emotions, encourage emotional self-regulation, reduce behaviours of concern and to heal from the impacts of adverse childhood experiences.

I have been working with children and following my passion to help people for 8 years in a range of roles.
During this time, I have worked as a team leader for a small intervention group program, primary school SSO and Developmental Educator.
I graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education and continuously aim to increase my knowledge through learning programs.
I am passionate about creating a warm and comfortable environment where children feel safe and valued. I love seeing the people I work with achieve their goals no matter how big or small.
As a DE I use a child-led approach to support children with social and life skills from emotional regulation and communication skills to self-care, daily routines and coping skills/strategies. I work collaboratively and respectfully with children and their families to support them through this journey.
